When I think about the 4th of July, and what it meant to our country, the word "independence" seems to be synonymous with "empowered."
We wanted to be the ultimate deciders of our country's fate, with no one else having power over us. Declaring our independence was our way of taking back our power.
Are there areas in your own life where you aren't fully empowered?
Are you holding back parts of yourself in any area of your life? Do you ever wish you could go back & retrieve the "you" you were in the past because you need her now?
I wish I could go back & get the "health nut" who did a detox diet once or twice a year, jumped twice a day on her rebounder, and went to both the chiropractor & the gym several times a week. I also miss the "me" who fearlessly drove 30-45 miles just to go to a different mall.
Which "you" do you miss?
Do you have trouble setting limits with people who push (or completely disregard) your boundaries?
As the single parent of an adolescent, I can relate to this one. I get lots of chances to practice staying in my power!
Where, in your life, are you not fully empowered?
Family relationships or situations?
Work issues or relationships?
Let's take it a little bit deeper. Are there habits or choices where you don't feel fully in control? Eating, sleeping, working, spending, saving, etc.?
Take a moment to think about each area of your life and how empowered you are.
In each area, rate how empowered you are on a scale of 1-10, using the description above as a guide. Bring every area where you score less than 10 into the ritual below...

Affirmations & Taking Your Power Back
As you feel that happening, focus on each area you identified and say, "In the fullness of who I am, I am taking back my power."
Chop the air around you (gentle karate chop motions all around your body) to sever any unhealthy emotional ties that may be getting in your way.
Say a prayer for healing in any area of your body, mind, heart or soul that needs it in order for you to take back your power. And then, in each area of your life where you identified a problem, take a moment to visualize what it would look & feel like to be fully empowered. End the ritual by expressing gratitude for the insights, the vision & the healing.
