Getting in Your Own Way
Yesterday's healing ritual was powerful! Did you get a lot of insights from the "remember who you are" meditation? I hope so, and I hope it encouraged and inspired you to commit to this dream you're pursuing. The new story. The one that's waiting for you.
But with any big dream, we are likely to encounter big resistance. How might you get in your own way? Let's meditate on that for a moment...
After taking a few deeper breaths, breathing in peace and breathing out stress and/or tension, I'd like for you to close your eyes and imagine that you are holding a remote control iin your hand. And in your mind's eye, see a blank screen in front of you.
With this remote, you are going to turn on your mind's movie of important scenes from your life. Mentally, touch the “on” button and ask yourself these questions...
How do I usually get in my own way?
What does that look like in my life?
If I start this process of healing so that I can create this new story in my life, how might I secretly keep that from happening?
Take a few minutes to watch the scenes, or listen to the words that appear or sound in your mind.
After you feel clear about what you have seen or heard, begin to bring yourself back to the room you're in and notice the feel of whatever is supporting you. Wiggle your toes, and feel yourself coming all the way back. Once you feel ready, open your eyes.
And then, make a quick list of what you saw and heard so you don't forget it.
What we're talking about, of course, are resistance and self-sabotage. I find it a hard idea to swallow. Do you?
If you are so committed to your own growth and healing, why would you keep yourself from getting it?
Here's what I have come to believe...
At the heart of every hidden moment of resistance or self-sabotage is fear and a loving desire to protect yourself. And this strategy almost certainly began in childhood when you couldn't have had the information or the perspective to know how fully & how often it would backfire.
So as we stand here, at the point in our storybook process when we begin to look at how to look at what is in the way, what do we do about the fact that we are the first thing in the way?
That's the question I'll be answering this week, starting tomorrow.
See you then!
